My Best Friend’s Wedding

Here I am to cheer and cherish our best friend Aishu’s wedding.

I reached the hall in the evening. Aishu’s room smelled of make-up and perfumes... She was getting ready for her big day. Her hair and dressing was done. She was all set to see how Saran looks and what his reaction will be looking at her. She was little tensed as she thought she was over dressed and Saran may either refuse to recognise her or he may give the “ppe... yaaruda indha ponnu... peyaattam irukku...”reaction from the movie “naduvula konjam pakkattha kaanam”. To add to the tension, her matching stone necklace broke and it looked like she was in love with it and that Saran would disown her without it. We had to come to her rescue. Ammu got a fevi quick and I managed to stick it together. Thankfully my fingers didn’t get stuck to it, else, Aishu would have become more worried... Wait a minute... not because my fingers got stuck to it but because of the fact that she wouldn’t be able to wear it. He he he. Anyway; all is well that ends well. She finally wore her necklace. She looked as beautiful as a morning flower and as pleasant as Aishu. We finally succeeded in convincing her that she looked no less than an angel. J

Someone came in and told it’s late, come soon. She walked fast out of her room. It looked like she was in a hurry to get married. We, the experienced people of all, explained to her that the girl was supposed to pose timid and soft. She cannot walk fast, even if she is in a hurry to get married. She grinned and walked slowly downstairs.

Dressed in a red and silver designer saree in the style of a 1970’s heroine, she stood there greeting all friends and relatives. Saran was in black blazers and they looked just perfect together. Poornima and I stood at her right end collecting her gifts. After some time, her hair-do was coming down... That was enough for her to get tensed once more... We managed to call the parlour lady and she saved the situation.... Saran would have thought what’s with the hair... She would do fine to him with her normal front hair clipped behind style.... the one he likes and the one Aishu would never change for the former reason... J

We got tired standing there getting no attention... After all, we all are attention lovers be it anybody’s big day... We were well dressed too for the occasion and looked convincing enough for eyes... he he he...

Whether Aishu and Saran were tired or not, me and Puri got very tired. We saw the crowd having some refreshing drink... We called out to our sisters, made them stand there and vanished away.

During my marriage, my sister was getting scolded each time she delays in getting the gift from my hand.... But here, poor Aishu was feeling bad to make us work and each time, she would say... “Sorry” and pass the gift... Hmmm... We said... Just one day... Enjoy all the attention you get....

Soon we started feeling hungry and after knowing the menu, we posed ourselves as famished and just dumped Aishu and her gifts to her cousin and ran away to treat ourselves with a variety of dishes. My family and Poornima’s family sat together and had good dinner. Next day since we had to reach the hall by 5 in the morning, we packed ourselves from there and went home.

Been long since I woke up at 4. But I had to; I didn’t want to get killed by Aishu. Reached the hall on time... Aishu was getting ready again... She looked like a proper south Indian bride this time, the present generation bride as in movies, with jewellery and flowers. She was getting ready for the maalai maattal and oonjal. She was so thrilled.... There were flashes everywhere. I was running between Saran and Aishu with tissue papers... not for any tears; it was just for wiping sweat. In a silk shirt and silk dhoti, Saran looked like a responsible man all set to take Aishu as his wife.

The muhurtham time was nearing and she was ready in her muhurtham saree. The big moment was to come. All gathered around the groom and the bride. Kattimelam the priest said and there Saran tied the knot with all pride and Aishu accepted it with all grace. There went the toe ring. Aishu looked like a complete woman with the yellow thali and the metti. They congratulated each other with a little eye talk. There were tears all around but not in their’s.

They were so happy and we felt happy to see them like that. They had been waiting for more than 6 years for this life. They deserved every bit of it and even more. We congratulated them with all the love we have for her.

It’s not over...Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost.

We did her room decoration for the first night, in Aishu and Saran’s new house. And whether she liked it or not, we loved it. We just wished if someone had done like that for our’s too. Simple, sweet and romantic. The house was grand already. We just had to beautify it with an Aishu charm. We took ammu also along with us. She was a kid no more though we may always see her like that. She was in full form for her sister’s wedding and was not going to miss a bit of it.

We came back to the hall for the nelangu. Poornima had to leave then. It was already late. Madam had to go and prepare for her own honeymoon. Nelangu was simple and fun. Done with all the rituals, I also left the hall conveying them my wishes.

Nice to be a part of your wedding Aishu.... All the best to both of you... Take care of each other.

Happy Married Life Aishu and Saran...

May God bless them with all happiness and prosperity...
May they be together at all times. May they gather lovely moments of love, care and joy; all life, all day, all moment.
